Authentic Vegetarian Recipes | Indian Traditional Food | Step-by ...

Mung beans are? full of protein.? They can be cooked in several ways. ? For this recipe, I soaked them overnight and then left them covered in a warm place so that they start?sprouting.? ?Making the curry is very?similar?to cooking the simple mung bean curry.

Ingredients (for 3-4 servings):

2 cups of sprouted mung beans
2 tablespoons oil ( I used sunflower oil)
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
2 small pieces of cinnamon sticks
2 or 3 cloves
1 or 2 small dry red chillies (optional)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon chilly powder
2 green chillies sliced through the middle ( if you like hot food!)
1 teaspoon crushed ginger
3-4 cloves of?crushed?garlic
1 tablespoon sugar or jaggery
1 tablespoon lemon juice (can use more if you like sweet and sour taste)
2 cups of crushed tomatoes. Fresh tomatoes can be used but would need to be softened a bit before adding.
a few curry leaves and a small bunch of coriandar

Method

1. To sprout the beans, wash the mung beans and allow them to soak overnight. ?The next morning, remove all the water and keep the beans covered in a warm place. ?I tend to keep these in a see through jug or bottle covered with a dark plastic bag. ?Keep these overnight and they should have?started to?sprout. ?In cold countries, you may have to leave them for half a day more to sprout.?Once?sprouted, wash the mung beans and use in curries or salad. Any extra beans can be frozen to use next time.
2.? Add a litre of water to the mug and boil them until they soften and split - I used a pressure cooker and cooked them for 40 minutes on a medium heat. ?Some people like their mung beans ?runny and can add more water.? I prefer mine to be thick so don't add too much water to them whilst cooking them.? Also, it's always easier to add water to the mug as it is cooking so start off with just a litre of water. Whilst the mung beans are cooking, prepare the spices etc:

3.?? Blend the tomatoes in a bowl.

4.?? Add the tomato puri, salt, turmeric, chilly powder, sugar, lemon juice, the green chillies, crushed ginger, crushed garlic and coriander and curry leaves to the tomatoes and mix well.

5.?? Once the mung beans have cooked - prepare the seasoning.

6.?? Pour the oil in a saucepan and let it get hot.

7.? Add in the cinnamon, cloves, the dry red chillies and mustard seeds to the oil.?The mustard seeds and cloves will pop so keep the saucepan covered.

10.? Add the tomato mixture with all the spices to the oil and stir well.? Cook for 3-4 minutes.

10. Now add the cooked mung beans to the tomato mixture and allow it to cook for 10 minutes.? At this stage, you can either cook it further to reduce the water - or add water to the mung - depending on how you like your mung bean gravy.

11.? Sprinkle?coriander?and serve the mung beans hot with rice or chappatis or porathas.

Capital Region Scene: New Saratoga County GOP leader

Saratoga County Republican Committee Vice Chairman John Herrick got a promotion this morning.

Herrick, the former chairman of the Saratoga Springs Republican Committee, was elevated to chairman of the county committee, after Saratoga County Republican Committee Treasurer Chris Callaghan dropped his bid for the top spot, according to outgoing Chairman Jasper Nolan.

The election of Herrick was not a surprise based on committee votes heading into this morning's county election. Even Callaghan had conceded defeat a few days earlier in the week.

Assemblyman James Tedisco, R-Glenville, who represents about half of the county's geography, said that Herrick was a good choice. He highlighted Herrick's work with the Saratoga Springs committee.

"It will be tough to fill Jasper's shoes," Tedisco added, referring to outgoing chairman Nolan, whose 27-year run ended today.

Additionally, Wilton Republican Committee Chairman Scott Kingsley was elected vice chair for the county committee. Linda McNab, the county's current secretary, will serve enough term in that position and Stacy Clifford will serve as committee treasurer. Both women also fill those functions for the Clifton Park Republican Committee.

Terms on the county committee are two years long.

Casio XJ-H2650

The Casio XJ-H2650 isn't Casio's brightest projector, but it's part of Casio's Pro Series, which is its brightest line of projectors. It also offers WXGA (1280 by 800) native resolution, the highest in the Pro Series line. That's a moderately big deal, because until now, if you wanted a WXGA Casio projector you had to settle for one of the lower brightness models. The XJ-H2650 delivers the highest brightness Casio offers with WXGA resolution, and the highest resolution with Pro Series brightness, all of which makes it a good choice for mid-size conference rooms and classrooms.

Casio rates the XJ-H2650 at 3500 lumens, a bit less bright than the 4,000 lumen Casio XJ-H1750 Pro Series that I reviewed earlier this year. However, the XJ-H1750 offers a native XGA (1,024 by 768) resolution.

The only other Pro Series model with WXGA resolution is the XJ-H2650's near twin, the Casio XJ-H2600 ($2,000 street). Casio says that the two models are identical except for the addition of USB A, USB B, and LAN ports to the XJ-H2650, along with features that depend on those ports. Most notably, the XJ-H2650's USB A port lets you plug in a supplied Wi-Fi adaptor so you can connect directly with, and send data images from, Windows and Mac computers as well as most Android, iOS, and Windows smartphones and tablets.

The extra ports also let you plug in a memory key to read JPG and a few other file formats directly, control the projector over a network, send data images over a network, and add interactivity with an interactive pen and software option ($260 street). However, the interactive feature is hard to recommend, since the projector's standard-throw lens would make it hard to interact with the image without casting shadows that would get in the way. All other features on the XJ-H2600 and XJ-H2650 should be identical, so the rest of the comments in this review should apply to both.

Basics, Setup, and Connections
Like all current Casio projectors, the XJ-H2650 is built around Casio's hybrid light source, consisting of LEDs and a laser paired with a DLP chip. The LEDs produce the red and blue primaries directly. The laser shines on a phosphor element to produce green.

Not too surprisingly, given that both projectors are part of the same Pro Series, the XJ-H2650 shares a lot of its basic features with the XJ-H1750. In particular, it weighs almost the same, at 15.6 pounds, which makes it most appropriate for permanent installation or room to room portability on a cart.

Setup is standard, with a manual focus and a manual 1.2x zoom, which gives you some welcome flexibility in how far you can put the projector from the screen for a given size image. In addition to the LAN and USB ports I've already mentioned, connection choices include the usual HDMI for a computer or video source, VGA for computer or component video, and both S-video and composite video inputs.

Brightness and Eco Modes
In my tests, the XJ-H2650 was easily bright enough in its brightest mode for a 78-inch wide (92-inch diagonal) image to stand up to the typical level of ambient light in an office or classroom setting. Even better, it was bright enough at that size so you could easily take advantage of its eco modes to minimize power use and save on electricity.

Most projectors offer one bright mode and one eco mode that lets you lower brightness and power consumption. Beyond that, they offer color presets that can also affect brightness, but are, in theory, meant to adjust color.

The XJ-H2650 gives you more flexibility for brightness and power use, with two non-eco modes, which I measured at 340 watts and 290 watts, plus five eco modes, with a measured range of 260 to 115 watts. With multiple eco modes, you have the freedom to pick the best color setting first, and then choose the least bright mode with the brightness you need, instead of using the color presets to adjust brightness. Also worth mention is that the only projector I've seen with more eco-mode levels is the laser-based BenQ LX60ST that I recently reviewed.

Stamford goes pink to raise awareness in breast cancer fight

STAMFORD -- A stream of pink flowed through downtown Saturday as hundreds of volunteers lined Atlantic Street to raise awareness for breast cancer.

They all wore pink shirts and some went a step further, donning pink pants, hats, bows and headbands. One woman, Karen Sabia, even wore a bright pink wig.

"Beep, beep, beep your horn," Sabia shouted to passing motorists, while holding a sign supporting breast cancer awareness. The Stamford resident was with her friend Lori Longo Legierse, a survivor who will be two years cancer-free in November.

The eighth annual Paint the Town Pink campaign, held by Stamford Hospital's Bennett Cancer Center, kicked off at 10:30 a.m. in Veteran's Park with speeches from Mayor Michael Pavia, WABC-TV's Bill Evans and representatives from the hospital.

"This is my favorite charity," said Evans, a Greenwich resident. "I lost my mother to breast cancer. She was 53 and I was 19. She was a concert pianist. Everybody loved her. I watched cancer cut her in half and kill her."

Back then, Evans said, there wasn't much awareness. If she was diagnosed earlier, he said she would have lived to meet his children. He said he hopes someday there will be a cure.

Helen Pass, co-director of the hospital's breast center, said 40,000 women will die from breast cancer this year, but 3 million will survive. "Don't be afraid to get a mammogram," she said. "We can't treat it if we don't know it's there."

After the ceremony, Frank Mastrone sang the "Star-spangled Banner," and hundreds of survivors and supporters took their positions to form a "Mile of Pink" from the park up to the corner, where Atlantic meets Broad Street.

"We just stand and bring awareness to breast cancer," said organizer Michelle Palazzo. "You'll see people get excited as they drive by."

Carol Ienner, a Stamford resident and volunteer, said she was diagnosed with breast cancer 11 years ago and went for treatment at the Bennett Center. "We just like to raise awareness that you can have it, live through treatment and move on," she said.

A unit of 10 members of the U.S. Army joined the cause, including Lestter Thomas, who held a sign that said, "Real Men Wear Pink."

"This is the second year we're doing this event," said Carla Campbell, commander of the unit, based in New Haven. "She asked us about a month ago, and here we are. It's a community event, and that's what we're about -- supporting the community."

A group of students from Westhill High School stood along the street, holding signs that read, "Honk for a Cure," "Be a Bra -- Support Breast Cancer," "Save the Hooters" and "Don't Let Cancer Steal 2nd Base."

Danielle Waring, a teacher at Westhill High School, said she's a cancer survivor and adviser to the students, who take part in several cancer events throughout the year.

The hospital's Mobile Wellness Center, which provides all-digital mammograms for women where they live and work, was parked in Veteran's Park for the morning. But they were not conducting screenings out of the bus Saturday.

Paula Riccardelli, manager of the Mobile Wellness Program, said the unit is mostly for women without insurance. "Mammograms save lives, so we want to screen women in the community and in corporations," she said.

About 2,400 screenings are performed in the unit each year, and about 1,500 of those patients do not have insurance, Riccardelli said. They diagnose a few patients each year and have "definitely saved lots of lives," she said.

Several events will be taking place around the city in October, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, including Girls' Night Out with Giuliana Rancic at the Palace Theatre on Oct. 13 and a fashion show at Saks Fifth Avenue on Oct. 17. Rancic is a TV personality who recently survived a bout with breast cancer.

Rookie Quarter Backs in the NFL (2012 what they are showing us)

Rookie Quarter Backs In The NFL (2012 What They Are Showing Us)

American Football

Week 3 Update
Luck had his most impressive showing so far despite his defeat to the Jags. RG3 had to chase the game after it had a hard time in the first half he still looks like the franchise future. Tannehill still looked limited to me he could punish the Jets once they lost Revis he looks average. Wilson may have threw the very debatable winning hail mary, but he still looks limited he moves well but his passing looks suspect their is a strong case of Flynn getting a game. Weeden continued to have issues failing to complete a large number of passes.

Previous The season enters week 3 and their has been a record for the NFL with rookie quarter backs starting from week 1 in the league this season 5 in all, in week one they went 1-4.

Andrew Luck
The stanford product is having a though introduction to the NFL been part of the rebuilding project currently in progress at the Colts who aim to rebuild their franchise about the most talked about player over the last 2 years in the college football, ultra reliable with pretty an all round game with little or no downside to him he is rightfully talked up as the next peyton manning, i personally think he can be better he is alot more mobile than he is given credit for making him elusive in the pocket.
Luck recovered from a week 1 defeat to settle at 1-1 with the win over vikings to ensure a better rookie start than the man he replaced. This has left him with 3 TD's, 3 Int, 533yds. He will want keep up his yardage but cut out his intercepts he has shown calm thou coming back from a intercept to lead a drive down field he has such pose. Week 3 should give an excellent test when he faces the Jaguars who are a real mixed bag.

Here are some of the excellent plays he made during his time at Stanford

Robert Griffen III
RG3 raised the Baylor programme last year with a great final year and it earned him the Heisman trophy too. He is a really mobile quarterback more elegant and quick than Newton but with a bigger more accurate arm from the off. He works hard and the redskins have made a huge effort to ease him in adjusting their play book for alot of plays he worked out during his time at Baylor.

He won a good game week 1 the only rookie quarterback to do so, but in week 2 he came up against a hungry Rams side in a game that either side could have taken, he has proven the most effective of the rookies from the 2 games so far (3TDs. 1Int, 526yds). He faces a test against the Bengals at home in week 3 a game they will want bounce back and win, RG3 will want record as good if not better numbers against an average Bengals defense.

Action from his debut NFL game:

Ryan Tannehill
A product of texas A&M he looked an excellent college quarter back but had a bit to prover that he would deliver in the pro ranks. Despite this a good camp gave him the starting spot over Henne. At 6foot 4 he is a big guy but he sees alot of his passes over the line getting tipped despite his size this is due to his low throwing action which worries some experts. He lost in week 1 but faced one of the moss impressive teams in the league, he looked much improved in the win over oakland, althou a home crowd will have helped him greatly.

His stats so far this season (1TD, 3INT, 419yds) improved greatly from the improved running game in week 2 were he was without an intercept and passed for his first td, he looked much better suited to balancing the pass with the rush. The improvement was great in week 2, but in week he faces Revis and the jets who will test him thru air so the rush may be leaned on again.

His week 1 showing v texans

Brandon Weeden
The Browns are also a team looking to build and try form some sort of play off team, they dropped previous draft pick McCoy and have now put their faith in Weeden to improve the teams fortunes. Weeden has what can only be called a rotten opening game, in fact the worst for a rookie qb on debut in history. The Oklahoma State product managed just 12 completed passes and 118yds and was picked off 4 times a rotten night for the newbie.

He recovered in week 2 and current rate of improvement will have him with hall of game numbers by the end of the season (2TD,4INT, 440yds) They did go 0-2 but they kept the bengals close and their defence is doing good work if Weeden can help the offense put points on board.

Some of the play that urged the Browns to select Weeden:

Russell Wilson
The Seahawks signed up Matt Flynn off his two games filling in for Rodgers, they paid him the money but after training camp, it was decided that Wilson the rookie was the preferred option to lead the side on the opening day of the season. Another mobile quarterback with a great arm who had a chance to enter MLB but opted to go the way of the NFL.

Week 1 was mixed, he had a chance to win them the game but while he did some things right his execution when given so many chances at the death let him down when the team needed him most. Week 2 saw improved numbers as they got out early against the cowboys (2TDs, 1INT, 304yds) his numbers are nothing much and the man hes keeping out of the side is probably the best of the back ups for these rookies. Everything improved in week 2, they host the Packers in week 3 who are weak against the pass, a game of 200yds or less might push flynn into the team.

The reason he was picked excellent pre season form:
