5 situations that would benefit from an HVAC zoning system
- You have a multi-level house. Because of the fact that heat rises, each level of your home heats and cools differently. Without a zoning system, this often results in homes with varying temperatures upstairs, downstairs and in the basement. When you separate every level of your home into its own zone, you can precisely control the temperature levels of each floor.
- Your home heats and cools unevenly. Different rooms and sections of your house can heat and cool differently depending on where they are located and how many windows they have. A room on your home?s exterior, for example, will receive heat from the sun through its windows, which will allow it to heat faster than interior rooms. This can lead to hot and cold spots in your home, which can be solved by adding different zones accordingly.
- You?re adding a new addition to your home. Often times, new additions to homes will have different temperature levels than the rest of the house. For example, a new addition might have better insulation than other parts of your home, which allows it to heat and cool more easily than the rest of your house. That?s why it?s often a good idea to separate new additions into their own zone.
- You have rooms in your home that you don?t use often. Is there an office, den or basement in your home that is rarely occupied? There is no sense in spending energy and money on heating and cooling a part of your home that nobody is using. With a zoning system, you can separate those unused parts of your home into their own zones and adjust their thermostats during the times when you do happen to use them.
- You have high energy bills. Adding a zoning system can significantly reduce the amount of money you spend on heating and cooling your home. That?s because the energy that you do use will be targeted only to the parts of your home that need to be conditioned. Instead of spending a large amount of energy heating and cooling your entire home at once, your HVAC system will only be used when specific zones in your home require hot or cold air.
