Cabinet members pledge self-improvement | Tempo - News in a Flash

Manila, Philippines ? The New Year marks the beginning of many new resolutions of people promising to improve themselves. To attain those resolutions admittedly would take will power and commitment.

Even some members of the Aquino cabinet have listed their pledges for self-improvement with the dawn of a new year. Among their resolutions are to eat healthy, exercise regularly, and read more books.

Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda decided that 2013 would be the year to do more exercise and learn a new language.

Lacierda said when asked about his New Year?s resolution in 2013.

Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), who appeared slimmer since going on a diet in 2012, also set a goal of sustaining a healthy lifestyle this New Year. ?To be gentler, kinder and lighter,? Coloma said in a text message.

Living healthy and reading more books are the commitments of Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Deles in 2013.

Deles, widely credited for the signing of the historic preliminary peace agreement between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in 2012, said she also plans to ?give proper thanks for all the good will, encouragement and support received this year.?

Presidential Political Adviser Ronald Llamas intends to contribute more to advance the administration?s reform agenda.

Being more accessible to the media is the promise made by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. this New Year. Ochoa, in a recent interview with reporters, said he would try his best to hold press conferences to provide updates on government policies and programs.

Meanwhile in his New Year message issued last Monday, President Benigno S. Aquino III declared that 2013 would be a critical chapter for the administration?s campaign for good governance and economic growth. The President asked Filipino voters to choose their candidates wisely in the 2013 elections since these new leaders who would nurture the reforms his government has initiated.

The President earlier went to Baguio City for a short respite upon the advice of Health Secretary Enrique Ona who was concerned about his health. Aquino, looking relaxed, visited tourists spots like Wright Park and Camp John Hay during his trip to Baguio. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
