Rep: Glee's Monteith heads to rehab

NEW YORK (AP) ? "Glee" star Cory Monteith is heading to rehab.

In a statement, Monteith's rep confirmed Sunday night that the actor has "voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction.

"He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery."

People first reported the news on its website.

This is not the 30-year-old's first time in rehab. He got treatment when he was 19 and previously has spoken about his addiction struggles, saying he had a serious problem and took just "anything and everything."

He told Parade in 2011 that he was "lucky to be alive."

Monteith stars as Finn Hudson on the Fox show. He dates his co-star, Lea Michele. She told People that she loves and supports Monteith and is proud he's going to rehab.

Professional Business Marketing ? How To Distinguish Your ...

When envisioning and establishing my business, I focused on both short- and long-term goals. My short-term goal was to outgrow a local competitor?s annual gross sales. I knew I wanted to eventually compete with multimillion-dollar giants, but first, I needed to examine?my?strengths and?their?weaknesses.

Market competition can create a battleground and my goal was to win the war. This mindset might be controversial, but many businesses have failed because they did not capitalize on their competitors? faults. I built my business from modest beginnings to achieve multimillion-dollar revenues by distinguishing my venture from others like it. Here?s how:

  1. Analyze the industry.?Studying the competition allows you to find weaknesses in their organizations. Begin by subscribing to their newsletters. Approach a competitor as an interested customer so you can see what its sales and customer service processes are like. I was able to gain invaluable information by simply buying a product and noting the logistics of the sales process. You can take it further and visiting the business? location, which allows you to speak to managers or even the owner. To your benefit, many of these leaders will brag about how they started their businesses ? or their own accomplishments. Take note and begin to brainstorm ideas for setting your business apart.
  2. Outshine the competition.?Now that you?ve gained knowledge about your competitors, put it to use. Create a more professional, user-friendly website. If applicable, outbid your competitors and secure exclusive contracts with your clients. Work to take your competitors out of the picture. By limiting their market appeal, you can increase your own. Your goal is to provide the most effective and efficient service or product from the start so customers recognize the quality of your company as well as its integrity.
  3. Focus on customer service.?Do this by assembling the best team possible. After all, your business is only as good as your employees ? they?re the face of your company. Positive and resourceful customer service helps set your venture apart at the outset, since larger companies are simply not as hungry for new customers. Aim to create the best shopping experience for your customers and do not compromise on the quality of your employees. Seek out intelligent and independent individuals who share your passion and vision. Regular communication about business priorities and strategies is crucial to professional and monetary growth.
  4. Create quiet opportunities.?This can be difficult. As you?re putting together the best team, best product, and best marketing, you want to keep a low profile. If you?re overexposed, your competitors will notice quickly and begin fighting back for market share. Try to keep your company under the radar as long as possible, while also gaining valuable and dedicated customers. Once those customers understand the quality and reliability of your business, they will remain loyal ? despite increased attention or competitors who might offer lower prices or more blatant promotions.
  5. Maintain your lead.?You should know your business better than anyone. Be proactive and deliver a quality product or service consistently. The most successful entrepreneurs anticipate future advances in technology, customer service, and production, and incorporate them into their game plans. You need to constantly push yourself and your team to new heights through active research and by attending professional conferences to avoid losing your edge to the competition. Team-building and potential contacts enrich the overall experience.

While a magic formula to benefit from the competition?s weaknesses ? and boost your business ? doesn?t exist, conducting extensive research is the key to see how your business can better connect with customers. Once you find your niche, you can begin building and maintaining your momentum by delivering quality service and a unique experience. The way to the top can be a war. Make sure you are motivated and diligent enough to be the victor.

Leopards and humans peacefully coexist in India

By Becky Oskin, LiveScience

Leopards and humans peacefully share the same densely populated rural landscape in western India, a new camera trap survey shows.?

The cameras caught leopards and other jungle cats, as well as hyenas and jackals, prowling close to houses through the night in farmland in western Maharashtra, India. The carnivores and people shared the same paths ? so much so that the researchers had to turn off their camera traps during the day because of the human and livestock traffic.?

Yet the leopards went largely undetected by people, according to a statement from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), which helped fund the study.?

"Human attacks by leopards were rare despite a potentially volatile situation considering that the leopard has been involved in serious conflict, including human deaths in adjoining areas," Ullas Karanth of the WCS, a study co-author, said in the statement. "The results of our work push the frontiers of our understanding of the adaptability of both humans and wildlife to each other's presence."?

The findings were published online March 6 in the journal PLOS One.?

The camera traps documented 10 large carnivores per 38 square miles (100 square kilometers) in the densely populated area ? five leopards and five hyenas. The human population density is more than 300 people per 38 square miles.

[ Images: Backyard Leopards Caught on Camera ]?

The discovery of so many large carnivores living in proximity to people highlights the need to focus on conservation outside of protected areas, the researchers said.?

The farming-intensive landscape lacks wilderness and wild herbivores for prey, and the region has only one protected area for wildlife, the Kalsubai Harishchandragarh Wildlife Sanctuary, the researchers said.?

An Old Fashioned Barn Raising ? Online | Social North

How do you nurture relationships in business and in life? You show up. You show interest. And you keep doing it over and over. Social media?s the same. It?s about investing in relationships. Trouble is, with so many social media channels it?s easy to get sucked into them all ? posting, tweeting, updating, commenting, posting again. Whew!

Step back, breathe and take a break.

With the right tools on the right networks and the right resources, your business can enjoy a digital barn raising that helps build your business today and sustain it into the future.

Find your friends

digital barn-raising to build communityIf you?re new to social media, finding the conversations you need to be part of can be like searching for the proverbial needle in the haystack. You can?t see everything at once and the effort it takes to learn how to find those conversations takes an extraordinary amount of time and effort. Try these tips to hone in on your community:

  • Set up alerts ? Let Google search the Internet for keywords that are relevant to your business and deliver them to your inbox. From there, you?ll start to see patterns.
  • Use Facebook and Twitter like a search engine ? Search social media to see who?s talking about your products or using keywords associated with your products.
  • Gain competitive insights ? Watch what your competitors are doing and how well they?re doing it. Analyze their conversations to see if there?s an opportunity for you to do it better. .

Keep in mind that every comment a customer posts is a chance to create a better connection. Ask yourself if more conversation will get you closer to your end goals? Are these conversations the seeds for future business?

Choose your networks

Every social network offers a unique twist on relationship building. Understand the dialect of each network and then learning to speak it with ease takes time ? and patience.

Twitter

connect with your customersTwitter is for comments, connection and quick communication. You?re limited to 140 characters so economizing your content is the key to success.

Join in the conversation. Don?t feel hesitant about talking to someone you don?t know ? it?s the perfect opportunity to show what your company can do or to ask advice.

Think of your conversations as personal, between two people, but taking place on an old fashioned party line on the phone. You know others are listening but you?re focused on the person you?re talking to.

Facebook

Facebook allows you to say more and return to conversations easily. It allows for deeper relationship building over a long period of time. Like Twitter, you can set up groups, promote events or share videos and photos ? they?re just more accessible for a longer time on Facebook.

A Facebook business page allows you to connect with clients, share feedback, act as a customer service portal, make offers and share opinions. What?s more, it?s searchable by Google, unlike personal pages on Facebook. Just ensure you avoid the 7 deadly sins?

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is viewed as the business social media site. You can search connections and join active groups in your industry as well as offer answers and ask for help. LinkedIn can be a powerful to make connections that could lead to sales, hiring and new vendor relationships.

Whatever you do on social media and whichever you decide to use for you and your business, be you. Understand that you are your brand and that your voice, the conversations you have and what you share helps others understand your reason for being.

Remember, it?s a brand, not a bland

The barn?s up, time to party

positioning a brand's identityImagine this scenario, if you can?You love a product so much that you?d drive across town just to be lucky enough to buy it, hold it in your hands, Skyy Vodka, for example. And as you?re paying for your purchase, you find it on Twitter. Suddenly you hear angels singing, the clouds part and a warm and welcoming ray of light shines on you. You whip out your smart phone and follow and chat and share your brand love with the Twitterverse?

But then days go by and that brand doesn?t acknowledge you or follow you back. You?re bereft and lonely. Why aren?t you good enough to follow? Why don?t they love you too? Why Skyy Vodka, why?

Sadly, brands that don?t follow haven?t figured out the difference between an audience and a community ? and they?ve missed the whole point of social media.

If you?re a brand on social media and you?re not following everyone who follows you, you?re missing the point. More importantly, you?re sending a strong message to those you don?t follow: I?m important because I?m a brand and you?re not?

When things go wrong (as they always do at one time or another) those people whom you don?t follow have no way of privately asking for help. Everything they say to you is public facing. And if they?re angry, the whole world is now privy to that anger. Think of how much grief you could have saved yourself just being a little more friendly in the first place and being a follow-back brand.

I asked a few of my friends on Twitter how they feel about brands that follow (or don?t follow) them back. The discussion ranged from disappointment about not being followed back to putting brands on pedestals and not expecting them to follow back.

I personally believe that the beauty and magic of social media is the humanization of brands. It equalizes us all, removes the gatekeepers and opens up opportunities for conversations. I left high school a long time ago and have no desire to enter a popularity contest with a brand. If I?m not cool enough to be followed, I?ll go find my community somewhere else ? and likely spend my money there too.

People want to hear from people. Social media works because it connects us with people we may never have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. If you?re using it as a broadcast channel, people will do what they do with commercials ? turn them off.

What the emotional side means for business

brand management for your marketing strategyFor all the C-level execs out there who are shaking their heads, muttering, ?I knew this wasn?t a good idea,? hold up a second. Just because something?s emotional doesn?t mean it?s bad for business. Think about it. You want your customers to become so engaged with your products and/or services that they share their brand love with friends and family. That?s emotional, right?

Being a brand representative in social media means making friends with people you might otherwise never meet. Some of those friendships will grow more personal over time. While we can and should set boundaries of what?s acceptable to share, we can?t help but dive into the day to day stuff that defines us. The friendships I?ve formed in social media are powerful and have changed me. I?m thankful for those experiences but I?ve learned that they come with responsibility.

For your community?s precious time and friendship, you (as a brand) must agree to:

  • Respect the friendship. Marketing messages are necessary in a brand?s social media strategy, but the 90/10 rule is golden.
  • Respect your position as a brand. While sharing your personality is important, some topics are definitely inappropriate. For example, it?s okay to share that the flu is going around the office and you?re passing out oranges instead of coffee today. It?s not okay to share that you?re running late for you OB/GYN appointment and will check in with everyone later.
  • Always do what you say you?re going to do. If you tell someone you?re going to call them to resolve an issue, call them. If you say you?re going to launch a contest, do it exactly as you said.
  • Remember to be friendly but don?t pry. There are some conversations a brand shouldn?t be part of (remember the OB/GYN?) unless it?s central to your business. Know your own boundaries and play within them.
  • Always be the hostess. Part of your role as a brand is too keep everyone happy and talking to each other.

Dana Helms, Community ManagerWhile social media should be part of your content marketing strategy, removing the emotion from it is short sited. Dive into the conversation and enjoy the connections you make with people and brands alike. Your digital barn raising might just be the key to your future success in business.

Connect with me on my many managed channels as you may know I love a great conversation.

What To Look For In A Tampa Plumber

Finding a Tampa plumber at a site such as http://www.gennaroplumbingtampa.com shouldn?t be a drain. In fact, it?s relatively easy to spot a talented plumber. Take care of your Tampa plumbing service issues quickly by asking the following questions before you hire a professional to fix that overflowing toilet, clear out the malfunctioning disposal or install bathroom plumbing implements. By educating yourself regarding what makes a Tampa plumbing repair person exceptional, you?ll select one with whom you can have a longstanding business relationship with, ending the need to scramble to find a professional anytime you have a plumbing emergency.

Questions to ask before you invite a Tampa plumber into your home include:

? How experienced are you? Though a professional who has just received his certification may be plenty qualified for your job, it is always a good bet to hire someone with experience.

? Are you familiar with the newest appliances? If your home is stocked with low flow toilets and other revolutionary plumbing, you?ll want to know that this plumber is familiar with their care and upkeep. You don?t want to be the guinea pig for the plumber who mainly deals with older fixtures; as many plumbers charge by the hour, you may end up paying more in such a situation. That leads you to the next question.

? How do you prefer to be paid? If you are more familiar paying by the job, find a plumber who will quote based on your unique plumbing needs. Some people prefer an hourly rate; in that case, you?ll need to be able to trust that the plumber will finish the job in a timely manner. It?s up to you as to how you wish to pay for your plumbing assistance. If the quote or hourly rate sounds too steep, say so; the plumber may have a good reason for his or her fee such as experience or speed of job completion.

? How quickly can you arrive in the case of an emergency plumbing job? It is wonderful to find a plumber who arrives when he/she says they will and finished the job quickly and expertly. If your potential plumber balks at giving you a time range, it is better to find someone who can give you at least a general time period during which they will appear to do your job.

Rep. Peter King Compares North Korean Government to 'Organized Crime Family'

Below you can find some of the notable comments made Sunday on "This Week with George Stephanopoulos." Political roundtable guests included former Newark Mayor Cory Booker, D-N.J.; Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y.; ABC News political analyst and special correspondent Matthew Dowd; ABC News senior Washington correspondent Jeff Zeleny; and editor and publisher of The Nation Katrina vanden Heuvel. Our special religion and politics roundtable included writer and religious scholar Reza Aslan; Rev. Calvin Butts, Pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York; author and atheist Susan Jacoby; Dr. Richard Land, of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission; and Sojourners president Rev. Jim Wallis, author of "On God's Side."

abc peter king this week jt 130331 wblog Rep. Peter King Compares North Korean Government to Organized Crime Family

King describes North Korean government as 'organized crime family'

KING: As far as I see, this is not even government. It's more like an organized crime family running a territory. They are brutal, he is brutal, his father was brutal, his grandfather was brutal. I don't see any purpose at all in [direct talks with North Korea] at all. It would demoralize our allies in Asia, certainly in South Korea, and it would - to me - serve no constructive purpose whatsoever.

Vanden Heuvel on gay marriage: 'justice delayed is justice denied'

VANDEN HEUVEL: "Justice delayed is justice denied. But I think that the Supreme Court is lagging so far behind now that marriage equality has won in this country? It is moving in states, it is moving politically. And I think you've seen, perhaps, the most rapid mass evolution on an issue, among our politicos as well. They know where the future of this country is. It is also a qualifier to win a next generation."

So I think whatever happens in the court, and it may well be that Kennedy's - Justice Kennedy's consuming affection for state rights does lead to overruling DOMA, I think we are going to see a social, moral, and political paradigm shift that is extraordinary.

King supports President Obama's position on guns

KING: Let me say, I support the president's position on guns. So I'll say that. Having said that, it's going to be very difficult to get very meaningful legislation through the congress, because despite what [Mayor Booker] was saying? is that you get a majority of Americans who don't seem to want this type of legislation. And I support it. So I'm - I am again, supporting legislation on gun trafficking, on background checks, assault weapons, all of that. But I just don't see the intensity building up.

Vanden Heuvel states 'the Republican Party is a values challenged party'

VANDEN HEUVEL: If they don't go along with immigration. I mean, as you head into 2014, the Republican Party is a values challenged party. They have big problems on immigration, on same-sex marriage, on gun reform, commonsense gun reform. So I think this is going to be a test case

Land thinks immigration reform 'needs to be done'

LAND: "Immigration reform is tearing the social fabric of the country. It needs to be done. The lack of doing it is causing havoc that will be difficult to repair in the social fabric of the country. And there is a way to do it, and a way to do it that's fair, and a way to do it that will heal the country."
